Salad Spinner Painting by Erin Sharber

What you will need:
  • Paper plates
  • Variety of tempera paints, make sure you have primary colors though.
  • Salad Spinner

  1. Set salad spinner on a table in front of the class and then  call students, one at a time, to come to the spinner.
  2. Students pick 2 primary colors and pour them onto the paper plate that they have placed into the spinner. Then they get to spin!
They have such fun! No one knows what the outcome will be until I lift the top off of the spinner and then the ooohs and ahhhs begin!
  3. After they have experimented with the primary colors and what they produce when mixed, let them use whatever mixes they choose from your selection of tempera paints.
  4. These turn out beautifully! It is so much fun listening to the students talking about what they see in their pictures. No two will look the same!
  5. Try this and your students will love it! This is also the perfect time to introduce your students to the color wheel and how we make all of our colors from just three primary colors.
