Geometry shapes/color Designs: Jonna

This is a lesson for kindergarten students addressing shapes and colors.
Students will create a self-portrait using different shapes and colors
cut from construction paper.

Step one: I would have various shapes drawn on the construction paper for them. They will be instructed to use a circle, rectangle, square, oval, rhombus and triangle somewhere in their picture.
Instruction as to what colors to use can be varied. Students
can be allowed to choose their own colors as long as they
use several, or if the students have already studied about
primary and secondary colors, they can be instructed to
use the 2 colors needed to make purple for the legs and
the 2 colors needed to make orange for the arms, etc...

Step two: Students cut their shapes out and glue them to
a piece of construction paper. (this lesson helps with
fine motor skills, also.)

When the students complete their picture, they will present
it to the class, reviewing the shapes and colors used in
their picture.
