Coffee Filter Flowers by James Schultz

Materials:
  • Coffee Filters
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Markers
  • Glue in styrofoam cups
  • Sand
  • Water in Spray bottle
  • Styrofoam plates to hold sand

Procedures:
  1. Have children use markers to color coffee filter.
  2. Have children use spray bottle to dampen colored coffee filters.  Children will be able to see the colors bleed across the filter.
  3. Let filters air dry for about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Have children brush glue along edge of coffee filters.
  5. Have children dust colored sand along edge of coffee filter.  This technique will add texture to the flower.
  6. Have children grasp coffee filter by the center and wrap end of pipe cleaner around it.  This will create the stem of the flower.
  7. Optional display in vase.
